Dat Phan is an Vietnamese-American stand-up comedian. When he was a child, he, his mother, and his siblings immigrated to the United States. They suffered tough financial hardships throughout his childhood.
He grew up in City Heights of San Diego and spent his teenage years in Santee, California, a suburb of San Diego. Critics of Phan often say that he includes his mother too much in his jokes and relies heavily on his gimmick of talking in a stereotypical Vietnamese accent, but his fans love it.
In 2003, he entered NBC's reality show, Last Comic Standing. Although he was not liked much by the other contestants due to his relative inexperience in professional comedy and his eccentric ways, he overcame many challenges, and won. He has made cameo appearances in Hollywood films such as Cellular and Love is the Drug.
