Aaron McGruder debuted his comic strip "The Boondocks" at the University of Maryland in the campus newspaper in late 1997.  He created the comic while working on campus at the Presentation Graphics Lab.

He now lives in Los Angeles, California, where his projects include "The Boondocks" animated TV series.  Also, McGruder is the co-author, with Reginald Hudlin, of a 2004 graphic novel, "Birth of a Nation".

In 2003, the United States Green Party asked him to run for President on the party ticket.  Aaron had to decline because at the time he was only 28 years old and legally too young to serve.

Aaron McGruder's comic strip has often come under attack and has been censorsed for it's content being too politically liberal and occasionally risqu?. He is a frequent public speaker on political and cultural issues.
