Biography

Dan Aykroyd was one of the most vibrant comic personalities of the 1970s and '80s.

Aykroyd's big break in comedy was when he was chosen to appear in the first season of Saturday Night Live (SNL) in 1975 playing a number of characters, most notably Elwood Blues, of The Blues Brothers.

From television to the big screen, Aykroyd did not earn film recognition until 1980, when he and John Belushi reprised their popular SNL characters in The Blues Brothers. Aykroyd's other notable films were Ghostbusters and Dragnet as well as the drama Driving Miss Daisy, for which he received an Oscar nomination for Best Supporting Actor.

In the '90s, Aykroyd's career faltered as he appeared in one disappointment after another. Despite scattered successes like My Girl, Chaplin, Casper, Antz, there were also a number of flops. In 2000, Aykroyd found success in supporting roles, such as The House of Mirth, The Curse of the Jade Scorpion, Crossroads, and 50 First Dates.

Currently, Aykroyd is planning to revive Ghostbusters, which will mark the third installment of the series, release is slated for 2008.
