Amy Schumer was born 1981 and is an American stand-up comedian from Long Island, New York, living in Brooklyn, New York. She is best known for placing 2nd on Comedy Central's Reality Bites Back. She also placed 4th on NBC's Last Comic Standing Season 5.
As a child, Schumer would make up her own characters, such as Madame Lavitsky, a fortune teller. In high school, Schumer participated in theatre and even played Gretl in "The Sound of Music" and performing as Molly in "Annie". She also played volleyball. In her senior year, Schumer was voted both "Class Clown" and "Teacher's Worst Nightmare". Schumer graduated from South Side High School in 1999. Schumer received a BA in theatre at Towson University. She also graduated from the William Esper Studio.
After college, Schumer moved to New York City to become an actress. She bar-tended and waited tables while she auditioned for various roles. At one point, Schumer portrayed a young woman diagnosed with breast cancer in the off-Broadway Show Keeping A Breast. Amy started doing stand-up comedy on June 1, 2004, where she first performed at Gotham Comedy Club. Last Comic Standing became her biggest accomplishment up to that point, where she finished fourth and was the top woman in that season.
Amy's favorite comedians are Judy Gold, Jess Kirson, Wendy Liebman, Sarah Silverman, Margaret Cho, and Ellen DeGeneres. She is also a New York Mets fan.
On 22 February 2008, Amy was the guest co-host on the XM radio show "The Black Phillip Show", hosted by New York comedian Patrice Oneal.
In the summer of 2008, Amy was one of the 10 comedians participating in Comedy Central's Reality Bites Back. She performed even better on this television show, taking 2nd place.
